About FinCalcs

FinCalcs is a free browser toolkit for finance students and anyone doing money math: the five-variable time value of money solver, the capital budgeting family (NPV, IRR, MIRR, payback), CAGR, bond price and yield, WACC, break-even, and effective annual rate — plus simplified simulators of the two calculators every finance classroom talks about, the BA II Plus and the HP 12C.

Where the numbers come from

Every tool runs standard textbook formulas in your browser: the ordinary-annuity TVM equation in END mode (the same default as the BA II Plus and HP 12C), present-value discounting for NPV and bonds, and numerical root-finding — a fine grid scan followed by bisection — where no closed form exists, which is exactly how handheld calculators solve for interest rates, IRR, and YTM. Results are shown to four decimal places, and every calculator page lists a worked example you can retype to verify.

What this site is not

It is not investment, tax, or accounting advice, and no example on any page is a recommendation of any security or product. The calculators take your inputs and run the math; choosing discount rates, judging risk, and making decisions stay with you and, where it matters, a qualified professional. The exam simulators are unofficial study aids — they are not affiliated with Texas Instruments or HP, and no website is allowed in a proctored exam room. CFA policy summaries on this site are informational; the CFA Institute's own pages are the authority.

Privacy in one line

All calculations run in your browser. Nothing you type into a calculator is stored, uploaded, or sent anywhere. See the privacy policy for the full story.
